Prominent ear is the most common congenital external ear anomaly. Prominent ear problem causes psychological problems for the child because of comments, jokes of other people particularly during the childhood period.
It is recommended to perform prominent ear surgery before the child starts elementary school (after the age of six) in order to eliminate adverse effects and prevent mocking among friends of the child. Ear cartilage completes the development in that period.
Prominent ear surgery can be performed easily when older if it is not performed during childhood. General anaesthesia is preferred for children and it is performed under local anaesthesia for adults.
