The technique of ‘enlargement of the Eustachian tube with balloon’, which has been applied in the recent past, gives very successful results in patients with chronic Eustachian duct obstruction.
After this application, patients are usually discharged on the same day. Under short-acting anesthesia, a balloon catheter is used to widen the patient’s Eustachian tube. A balloon catheter is inserted into the Eustachian tube by entering through the nose. The balloon on the catheter is inflated to expand the narrowing in the tube. The whole process takes around 15-20 minutes for both sides.
